Light-ness and standing still.
Happy Solstice.
Happy Solstice, friends!
From two Latin words, sol (“Sun”) and sistere (“to stand still”), starting tonight the Sun appears to stand still in the sky for several days until it is reborn (on Yule/Christmas).
As the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, now is the time we most value the light, when it is fading.
A friend told me recently that the winter solstice is actually the “most yin” day of the year, a good time for looking inward.
It’s a good time for standing still, for pausing, to take a breath. To dream.
It’s as if the earth or Nature is taking a breath too.
Recently we saw a winter light display at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The exhibits and displays are designed to make you pause, to take in and “play” with the light.
Today and over the holidays, I hope you enjoy the pause, stand still and breathe in the solstice and the season.
Wishing you light-ness and very Happy Holidays!
